Starting a new school

...on the other side of the world in a language you can't really speak isn't exactly easy. But in all honestly the 6 months I've spent here at K-A-V have been the most rewarding in my entire life. Where I come from, New Zealand, 'am Arsch der Welt', home to more sheep than people, life is pretty different. For a start whenever you want to go somewhere - you go by car. Biking is unheard of - unless you want to get run over, buses are too slow and trains can't get you out of your own town. Biking everywhere here in Celle seemed kind of weird at first, but it's something I've grown to love, even when it's biking to school at 7:30 in the morning and it's arschkalt xD.

The food here has been great too. People think we just eat sheep in New Zealand, which is kind of true but we still have a bit of variety =P. Life without Haribo and Rittersport and great sausages and places like H&M and IKEA is going to be hard though. What I found really great about KAV, about school here in general, is that students really have an opinion. You're not simply told how things are, instead everything is discussed and questioned - considered from different anglesand I really think you learn a lot more that way. We don't really have that in NZ.

You write down what's been put on the board and what your teacher tells you is right- end of story and I'm not looking forward to coming back to that. I'm not looking forward to coming back at all =(. The people here have been amazing, and I'd just like to say a big thankyou to everyone who's been so welcoming and giving and to the best host family in the world - if you're lucky enough to know the Bergmanns you know what I'm talking about =).

I'd recommend the chance to go on a student -exchange to everybody. It really is the hardest, most rewarding experience you can have and the oppurtunity to make a whole new heap of friends, to call another place 'home', to learn a new language, a whole new culture is incomparable. I've met so many great people, had the oppurtunity to try and do so many awesome things and the 6 months I've spent here will stay with me forever. Thankyou everybody!!
